How to set up two-factor authentication with Key369

Key369 generates one-time codes for services that support TOTP. First, enable two-factor authentication in the service itself. Then add the secret key it provides to your authenticator.

1. Prepare the app

For Android 11 or later, download the installer from key369.app. On iPhone, open the web app in Safari, add it to your Home Screen and create your vault from the new icon. The web vault requires a separate password of at least 12 characters.

Open “Account”, verify your email and choose “Start 7 days free”. The trial enables new account additions and all other PRO features. Generating codes for accounts already saved on the device does not require an email connection.

2. Get a setup QR code from the service

Open the security settings of the account you want to protect. Find two-factor authentication and choose the authenticator-app method. The exact labels depend on the service.

The service will display a setup QR code or a text secret key. This connects its account to your authenticator. Keep that page open until you confirm the first code.

3. Add the account to Key369

  1. Choose “Add” in the codes section.
  2. Scan the 2FA setup QR. If it is on the same phone, import its image or enter the secret key manually.
  3. Check the service name and account label. A useful label distinguishes work and personal accounts.
  4. Save the entry. A code and its remaining time will appear.

For manual entry, use the secret key from the service’s settings. Your email password, an email verification code and the authenticator’s current six digits are different values. Change advanced settings only when the service tells you to.

4. Finish the setup in the service

Return to the service’s security page and enter the current Key369 code. Wait for confirmation that two-factor authentication is enabled. If the code is nearly expired, use the next one.

Save any recovery codes the service offers. Those codes belong to that service and can help when your authenticator is unavailable.

5. Save your first backup

Create an encrypted Key369 backup and store it separately from the phone. On iPhone, open “Settings”, choose “Create backup”, then save the backup file. Keep its separate password. Cloud backup also needs to be configured; signing in with email alone does not create it.

Saved codes keep working after the trial. Adding new accounts, changing their organization and writing cloud updates require active PRO access. Export and restoration remain available.

If a service rejects the code

Check the selected account, wait for a fresh code and enable automatic date and time on your phone. When repeating setup, use the new key provided by the service. Keep setup QR codes and secret keys private.
